So you have been dreaming of a new and improved space. You have thought about it, designed it in your head over and over, looked at all the Pinterest photos, and now you're ready to get started.
The next step is to hire a team that you trust to see your dreams through.
When most of our experience of home renovations is primarily from watching 30-48 minute home improvement shows where every issue is quickly resolved, it's common to develop unrealistic expectations during a home remodel. In truth, the lack of knowledge about what to expect can lead to significant frustration throughout the process.
Here is a short list of things your GC wants you to understand before you get started with your home renovations to manage expectations and ultimately, enjoy the process of building your dream space.
THERE WILL BE DUST. LOTS of it.
Even though we do our best to control the dust and clean regularly, it is unavoidable.
Great news! We have a professional cleaning crew ready to clean your home once the project is done. The best part is, when the cleaners arrive, it signifies that we have completed our work!
2. EXPECT CHANGE
As we go along through the process, we may see that a pendant light is too small, the dream countertop material is out of budget, or the paint isn’t the right shade. Relax! Let’s work together for a solution that you’re happy with. Sometimes this means a change in the budget. But always bring the conversation to the table. It is important to remain flexible with scheduling and design, because most of the time there WILL be changes.
3. EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED
We plan for contingencies in the cost, the schedule, and materials. But sometimes there are things that we can’t anticipate until demo starts and the project is underway. There may be rotten subfloors, mold, items are out of stock. Relax! There is almost always a solution.
4. YOU HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY
We do our best to communicate in a timely way about any changes in the schedule or plan. Please communicate with us any questions or concerns you have. You’re a vital part of the renovation team! And we want to make sure you’re happy with the final product.
What do you think? Have you undergone a renovation? Anything you would add to this list?
